Seth Klessig - Heyworth

What I've worked on this week!

It's been a busy week at the Feast!  I've spent my time learning a huge assortment of things.  Everything from the inner secrets of Word 2007, OneNote and Powerpoint to the exciting world of Assistive technology.

I'm a special education teacher at the Heyworth High School so one of the most exciting part of the week for me was learning about OneNote.  Much of what I do consists of taking notes and being organized.  OneNote will definitely change the way I do things.  It will allow me to take notes in the regular education classroom for my students and then organize and share those notes with the students and parents in a fashion that is both quick and easy.

The other activity this week that was important to me was the Assistive Technology session.  I didn't realize how many different websites there are that are dedicated to assisting special needs students.  Things like the Kurzweil and Lexia will be a definite benefit to the students in my program.

The Starfish

While walking down the beach, a man saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it in the ocean.
As he came closer, he saw thousands of starfish the tide had thrown into the beach.  Unable to return to the ocean during low tide, the starfish were dying.  He observed a young boy picking up the starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean.
After watching the seemingly futile effort, the observer said, "There must be thousands of starfish on this beach. It would be impossible for you to save all of them.  There are simply too many.  You can't possibly save enough to make a difference."
The young boy smiled as he picked up another starfish and tossed it back into the ocean.
"It made a difference to that one," he replied.
