Children’s Book Assignment

 

&   Worth 100 total points

 

&   Must be at least 7 pages plus a title page

 

&   Your story must be approved by Mrs. Fuiten

 

&   Will have a rough draft and final copy of your book.  BOTH will be turned in!

 

Rough Draft:

 

&   All pages (except the title page) must be complete with pictures and text.

 

&   Can be done on math paper

 

&   Drawings should be a rough sketch.  In other words, no need for color.

 

&   A child, 3rd grade or younger, must proofread your rough draft and sign it.

 

Final Copy:

 

&   All pages (including the title page) must be complete with pictures and text.

 

&   Title page must include a picture, author, and title.  This page does not have to be typed, it can be hand-drawn (but does not have to be).

 

&   Words on each page must be typed (any size, any font)

 

&   A page number should appear on each page (except title page)

 

&   Pictures should appear on each page.  Make each page very colorful and fun!  Pictures WILL NOT be pictures from the Internet, they will be your own hand-drawn pictures.

 

&   As previously mentioned, you may not use characters or story lines that have already been told (ex. Little Red Riding Hood or “SpongeBob Squarepants”).  All characters should be original. 

 

&   Also be sure your story is kid-friendly.  Do not use words with more than 2 syllables!!

 

  

Rubric:

 

&   Title page- 5 points

 

&   Each page is worth 5 points- 40 points total

 

&   Correct punctuation, capitalization, and mechanics on each page- 10 points

 

&   Kid-friendly- 10 points

 

&   Rough draft completely done and turned in with final project- 30 points

 

&   Read and signed by a child in 3rd grade or younger- 5 points

 

&   100 points total

 

&   2 points per day will be taken off for each day late
